The Dark Figure from Brandie Davis I was about 10 years old and living in a house in Mexico, MO, with my grandparents.
They had kind of spoiled me growing up, having raised me since the time
of my birth. The house we were living in at the time was on the West side,
the neighborhood starting to show signs of the lower income families that had
moved into the housing development a couple blocks away. On the night
in question, I was sick with the flu or some other malady that kids get and my
grandma told me I could sleep in her bed with her, my grandpa was to sleep in my
bed. I woke up in the middle of the night, either my bladder was calling
me to be emptied or I was thirsty, I can't remember which, but regardless, I
was awakened by something. I have to add that at this point in my childhood,
I was petrified of the dark and wouldn't get up at night unless my grandma
or grandpa were up and moving about. So I'm laying there staring up at the
ceiling fully awake waiting for someone to wake up so I could go do my thing.
After about 15 minutes of waiting, I glanced out the door and thought I
saw my grandpa walk by. I was so overjoyed, my patience payed off!
I hopped out of bed and went to the door, pausing to glance into my room.
What I saw I could not explain...my grandpa was still asleep in my bed.
I glanced down the hall and saw nothing moving around then hightailed it back to
bed and curled up under the covers right up next to my grandma. My heart
was pounding hard in my chest and I was still trying to put together the pieces
of what I had just seen. It was a black figure that had walked past that
door, not my grandpa, but close enough in height that I could have easily mistaken
it as him. It had long swinging arms and it took only two strides
to come into view then pass by the door. To this day it still gives me chills
just to think about it. It was this experience that put the 'ghost bug'
in me and I've been interested in the paranormal ever since. |
The White Mist from Brandie Davis When I was 12, we moved from the house that I had my first ghostly experience in
to another in Mexico, MO, this one on the Northeast side of town. It was
a much nicer neighborhood and my grandparents just loved the house we had gotten.
In 1996, I was enrolled at Truman State University and only came home
to visit on the weekends. The week of spring break, I didn't have any plans
and neither did my friend, Michele, who was from San Francisco, so we decided
to spend the week with my grandparents. Well, my grandma had set up two
twin beds in my room, one on each side of the room. It was during this week
that I had my second confirmed encounter with the paranormal. It was
late at night and both of us girls were asleep when something woke me up.
It was pitch dark in my room with the exception of a white hazy mist floating
over the length of Michele's bed. She was sound asleep - I could hear her
faintly snoring. My first thought was that our neighbor's motion sensitive
light had come on outside and was shining in through the window. So I
peeked out the shade and found that there was no light source coming from outside.
I glanced back over to Michele and the mist had dissipated a little,
but it was still hanging in the air above her bed. It was at this time that
I rolled over and pulled the covers up and over my head...I was still a little
scared of such things at this time. The next morning I thought about asking
her if she had seen anything the night before, but I decided not to.
To this day she still does not know what I saw floating above her that night
while she slept. |
